...1 - 11 -11 - a 'Special' date .....
..let's hope this 'special day' is cosmically when kindness, compassion, and integrity permeate the air we breathe, and is the beginning of a process which can cleanse modern living of 'pre-historic bestial bullying', and the aquisition of mega wealth by the extremely rich !! ....where has humankind gone astray? There a widespread obsession with all things 'expensive' according to International financial reports, luxury goods are enjoying 'a boom' ..unbelievable .. - 'the rich becoming richer - and the poor - poorer'... It's obvious that really successful money making businesses are ...horrifically - wars ...!! Let's pray for a miraculous re-birth of 'humanity' and faith in the goodness of our fellow creatures ....maybe then pure, unconditional love will have a chance to flourish ....be thankful and deserving of any kindness with which you are blessed.....mmmm...looking forward to 11/11/11 ...bless you all...and k..p b.......g ...that helps ...!!!

Breathing in to the venue...a vital skill...Anna Larsson...,
We live and learn - with any luck !! It only occurred to me recently, whilst at The Royal Opera House, London, with my most experienced and brilliant breather, the fascinating Swedish contralto Anna Larsson, with whom I commenced my Extended Breathing method in 1992, that the Ambience, Accoustic and Architecture of a venue is more crucial to phonation than I'd realised after all these years 'in the biz'!! At The Garden - (Co(n)vent Garden being a most appropriate venue !!) for her debut as 'The Principessa' in 'Suor Angelica', Anna and I 'breathed her voice' and text into those vital elements with perfect synchronisation, the voice displaying every nuance, variable dynamic and emotion written into the score by Puccini...so different from the Teutonic repertoire with which Anna is uusually identified ...brilliant, altogether an impressive Debut, sincere congratulations Anna ...then, a few weeks later, we're in Oxford, for a recital with her well established, masterly and accomplished Duo accompanist, the charming Matti Hirvonen, piano, to make musical magic ...what a sublime experience they created for their doting audience...at The Holywell Music Rooms Concert Hall, the first 'purpose built' edifice in Europe - seating about 300 - depending on the width of spectator posteriors !! The way Anna played with the change of the three 'A's' and her wonderful use of text, with Matti's constant guidance and rhythmic support were perfect - 'en rapporte' - absolutely incredible - and Matti had already played for another singer in a recital earlier in the day ...so we go on, every time finding new sensations..mmmm...here's to our next 'breathe in'..mmmmm...k..p b.......g...

Breathtaking and Inspirational Duo - Anna Larsson, contralto and Matti Hirvonen, piano...
Anyone who was lucky enough to be at the wonderful recital in Oxford last Saturday evening, 22/10/11, at the magnificent Holywell Music Rooms - the first 'purpose built' European concert hall, erected in 1742 - was treated to a blissful evening of delights, by these two brilliant creators of musical magic...the programme series dedicated to Swedish Artists, offered a generous helping of compositions from well loved repertoire, plus some impressive contemporary works. All were treated to the same loving care of vocal and pianistic interpretation - and what an amazing rapporte Anna and Matti have developed in their continued collaboration...fantastic...they radiated creative perfection...and I've never heard Anna find so much depth and soul searchingly heartfelt intensity in well known favourites, plus fun in the lighter repertoire ...I was SO surprised that, after our years of 'breathing' music into her uniquely beautiful and extraordinarily flexible voice - she has unexpectedly 'found' a totally new and even more incredibly fascinating vocal expressiveness - and ooooh, the gorgeous variety of dynamics throughout her entire contralto to top soprano range 'PPPP' to 'FFFF'..and back !...unbelievable...sincere and heartfelt congratulations to this Dynamic and well loved Duo ..toi toi toi...don't forget to k..p b.......g....

Alleluia !! I'm 'connected ' again, having moved to another 'server'...phew, I can breathe again ...ha ha ha !!!
It's been an anxious time changing Internet Servers, from Talk Talk to o2 - several very confused days, due to mysterious new passwords, etc., for wi-fi router, on iphone and in laptops - it's not quite "all Greek to me ", but very close..hmmm... so now I have all my favourites restored and feel safe and secure in being able to contact all my lovely 'breathers' again...what I really admire is that the various advisers from the numerous companies have some sort of 'sixth sense' re telecommunications lingo and procedures - they can't actually see the screen I'm using, and my knowledge of IT technical terms is nil! Have you tried to explain that little 'whizzing' coloured circle - called the 'egg timer' which comes in a variety of colours and shapes..?? I usually end up in fits of laughter when describing them ..!! Luckily all the brilliant IT experts have a sense of humour... I've been in touch with a 'plethora of persons' around the world - and with o2 even in the U.K.!! So, with baggy, saggy eyes from hours of screen watching, I'd like to thank Magarida and Ana Maria in Portugal, Arjun and Guru Gerry @ 02 in Hemel Hempstead, Herts., Maurice - Manchester, Sharlene and Nick - London, Ellen - Stockholm, Stephen - Glasgow, Mike and Kiera - Ireland, and several in India and South Africa - to mention but a few...At the weekend I'll go to Oxford to hear the 'first' of my fabulous Swedish Breathers, the one and only Anna Larsson, contralto extraordinaire, recently successfully making her debut at The Royal Opera, London, as 'The Principessa' in 'Suor Angelica'...now for another facet of her limitless talents, a recital at The Holywell Music Rooms in Oxford, accompanied by the delightful, and ever impressive Matti Hirvonen, piano, 20.00 Sat. 22nd. Oct. 2011 ... mmmm..looking forward to this 'gem' of a performance ... so Dear Readers, keep warm....and most importantly ..k..p b.......g ...

Annaz 'Extended Breathing Routine' is spreading Internationally ...
My Dear Breathers, I'm happy to say your number increases by the minute !! As one unknown member of an audience, sitting behind me at a concert in Stockholm recently, in which 4 "Simsonic Breather's" were singing, tapped me on the shoulder, and said "You won't know me, but I'd like to tell you I can 'hear the inspired difference' between the singers using your Breathing Method and the other three on the platform' - I was was so surprised, and very encouraged by this charming compliment... and now I'm almost overwhelmed with interested and gifted vocalists, (thanks to Lionel Logue in 'The King's Speech' Film) many of whom have survived the rigours and disappointments of spending several years (and a lot of cash..!) in Voice Departments at some of the worlds' finest Music Teaching Establishments. Am happy to report, that in some cases, their original instinctive 'real voice' has been re-connected with minimal air control - in only three or four hours !! Amazing !!! I'd not have believed it possible, but I have made recordings, for study only, and it's absolutely true - miracles really DO happen...My travels in the last few months have taken me to Brussels, for Swedish contralto Anna Larssons' stunning 'Kundry' at Le Monnaie; Stuttgart Opera with the charismatic English mezzo Rosalind Plowright, O.B.E., for her incomparably brilliant 'Prioress' in 'The Carmelites'; delightful Natalia Kreslina here in Berko, to prepare her 'Tatiana' in 'Onegin', Ainhoa Zubillaga, gorgeous Spanish mezzo soprano, here to develop her repertoire, and the charming French mezzo Laure Slabiak, 'connecting airwise' - and enjoying singing again, after study in a conservertoire...then to Utrecht and the golden voiced Dutch mezzo soprano, Margriet van Reisen, another contact made in Brussels...and I thorougly enjoyed her splendid Cabaret at The Amstel Hotel, with Benjamin Levy and his Pelleas Orchestra of Paris, in The Amsterdam Festival..then Munich to enjoy a series of Baroque concerts with one of my 'regular breathers' who wishes to remain anonymous ...then there were The BBC Proms you know about already ...all in all, my most inspired year to date...an interesting development has been breathing with Karin Norlen, a very artistic Swedish viola player, who has discovered that she also has a really lovely voice, and we had fun this week with her Parents, both of whom enjoy singing - her Father has a splendid tenor voice ... life is full of love - and joyful...k..p b......g my Dear Friends ...

So many happy and successful International "Breather's"..toi toi toi...
Now that my "little breathing 'thing' " as one dubious critic described it, has been recognised after 38 years of promotion - (Alleluia !!) - as beneficial to all who breathe - haven't tried it on animals yet (!), ha ha ha ...and not just a figment of my vivid imagination, my life is enriched by the number of trusting souls who have allowed me to guide them RESPIRITUALLY - sometimes I 'feel' this is linked with spirituallity and Divine Guidance...hmmmm....all I know is that what I'd thought would be the end of my "useful, 'normal' existence", has become transformed over the years, (since my almost fatal fire accident), into the most incredible gift which allows me to meet highly talented and beautiful people - these attributes are synonymous - so my simple life is enhanced beyond - beyond - beyond my understanding. If you follow my Blog, you will know about most of the singers who are proving so successful with the puzzling 'mini-breathing' I recommend and demonstrate to all who are interested in developing their individual talents - it takes much courage to 'change' your ideas and abilities if they are not functioning correctly for you.... I know how scary it can be to open ones' lips and hear absolutely nothing come forth ...ooooh!!!....My 'muteness' lasted several months after the burning of my lungs, larynx, etc., (Hoorah for my Friends - I DO vocalise incessantly, until reminded to be quiet ..severe case of Verbal Diarrhoea....substituting for shyness as a child ..Aaaah..) ...one needs immense bravery and faith to let go of elements that disturb our natural phonation ...mostly curtailed by ignorant 'singing teachers' who had their ability to sing freely and enjoyably destroyed by 'experts' who advocate 'tilting the larynx, practising endless, mindless, irrelevant scales 'for hoooours' .... a good way to kill the joy of singing .... To name a few delightful singers, with whom I've enjoyed many happy 'breath connecting' hours recently ... Ainhoa Zubillaga, Beatrice Orler,Guy Edwards,Karin Norlen,Laure Slabiak,Lisa Larsson,Margriet van Reisen,Rosalind Plowright, O.B.E.,Natalia Kreslina and Sani Muliaumaseal'l (Malo for short !!) ..wishing you all very happy creational and inspirational days...k..p b.......g....

2 Simsannabim Breathers in London Promenade Concerts - 2011 ...Wow - Hillevi M and Anna .L...
This is very, veeery exciting, two of my most brilliant and experienced Swedish breathers - 'Heavenly Hillevi' (Martinpelto), and 'Amazing Anna' (Larsson), contralto, will be singing in the prestigious Promenade Concerts Series at The Royal Albert Hall, London. They started breathing with me in 1992 (..can you believe...?! ) and a couple of years later were together in The Nobel Prize Celebration Concert in Stockholm City Hall - a very impressive occasion. On Thursday 4th. August, Hillevi is singing Strauss' "Four Last Songs ", with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Donald Runnicles, and Anna, on Friday the 5th. August, with Gustavo Dudamel and his Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra from Venezuela (oooh), in Mahler's 2nd. Symphony...so if you'd like to hear the Simsannabim 'Simsonic Ping' demonstrated to perfection, take yourself along for a real treat.... not bad, two opportunities on consecutive days ..must be a record...and don't forget...k..p b.......g ...and 'pingin' ..!! Ha ha haaaaa..

Remarkable Rosalind Plowright ....."ageism"...let's abandon it before we die !!!..ha ha haaaa !!!!
Does it bother you as much as me, when I suggest a singer to a management for a specific operatic role, and they negatively reply about their age ?? Yes ? I'm so fed up with this attitude, especially when I know that many promising careers have come to an abrupt halt because the singer was propelled into a role ...TOO SOON....and of course there's the opposite ....being juuust too late...for me it depends on the intensity and persuasive interpretation of the individual artist. If I attend a performance and am 'carried away' from reality into a euphoric state, in which I'm unaware of the lighting, direction, design, etc. the age of the performer is irrelevant. The most important factor as far as I'm concerned, is that the artist can spellbind us with a 'realistic' performance, transforming themself convincingly into the character they're playing.... in my late twenties I played a young heroine one evening, and two days later, I was an elderly 'Marcellina' in "Le Nozze di Figaro". Friends who attended the first performance came to see me afterwards,as usual, but not after the "Figaro" - so I presumed they didn't think much of my portrayal of 'Marcellina'. When I 'phoned them and asked if they'd enjoyed the "Figaro" production they were most complimentary about the evening. "But you didn't come backstage to see me afterwards, as usual". "We hadn't a programme, and didn't realise you were in the show !" - pausa - " I was the old 'Marcellina' - you didn't recognise my voice either?!!" Big guffaws of laughter all round - what a little makeup can do ..!! If you'd like to see a real live charismatic 'ageless' Diva, look up the remarkable Rosalind Plowright, O.B.E., in her Facebook Fan Club page ...especially the photo gallery ..I was there for her sensational "Prioress" in "Les Dialogue des Carmelites" at Stuttgart Opera recently - and believe me , she IS a LIVING LEGEND, and thoroughly acclaimed by her ecstatic audiences ...she is the youngest in sound of 'over sixty' singers I know ...toi toi toi Rosalind...her charming husband, Tony Kaye, none more experienced 'in the business' than he, asked me at a breathing session with Rosalind, when we were 'breathing in' a role, "Excuse me Anna - is this all you do to enable Rosalind to sing the way she does ?" -meaning the simple physical movements, etc. "Yes Tony" - " Good Lord, we must make a dvd of it, or no one will know how to do it when you're dead !!"... hysterical laughter all round ...I'm still chuckling about it ..ha h ha...so, Dear Readers...k..p b.......g ...and laughing ...

Wills and Kate - their beautiful Wedding ....bravo...congratulations...
With the world generally and sadly in such a state of chaos, dis-unity, political and religious turmoil, it was a relief to discover that the love of these two 'down to earth' human beings, generated such an incredible sense of love, goodwill and what one had thought was a lost feeling of 'togetherness' in Great Britain...it really made one feel great - and so glad that it was truly Internationally recognised !!! All the fearfully anticipated Republican 'aggro' and violent demonstrations did not manifest ..Alleluia ...how wonderful to be able to enjoy and participate in a National Celebration peacefully as in years past..I was a spectator in London at our Queen's Coronation...still vivid in my memory - and how well she and Prince Philip are 'maturing' !!..but, as so many millions on this occasion, I viewed the day on television in the comfort of my own little house...The uniforms, regalia and processions were spectacular, especially after the Abbey drive - the crowds were ecstatic ...and the actual marriage ceremony was for me, a real tear jerker...going through tissues almost by the box ! Some of the hats which adorned many of the ladies present were gorgeous (and several hilarious !!) Altogether, the clothes were fabulous, especially the Brides' ...she may be a commoner, but there is nothing parochial about Kate's beauty; her grace and natural elegance are above and beyond the everyday and ordinary ...this is surely a divine union..I wish them every happiness, thank them for giving us something to be proud of in our multi -cultural society - and reviving our almost 'lost' inbred sense of integrity, hard put to the test by recent political shenanigans...here's to more inspirational events ...k..p b.......g...and smiling....

Can you "Tilt your larynx..??...it's 'all the rage '...!!!
The latest "scam" to manifest among "singing teachers", in the quest for a lucrative system which can assist the un-enlightened in the process of singing - is "Tilting the Larynx" - and the system is now invading and infecting, like an 'oral cancer', some illustrious music teaching establishments in the U.K., and Scandinavia..yes, you read that correctly ! I couldn't believe it when a young student of singing at one of the foremost London Speech and Drama Schools, asked me what it meant ..and I had to confess I'd never come across the term in a lifetime of singing Professionally, or 38 years of instructing anyone interested in how to achieve "Extended Breathing", which in my experience, is the vital element necessary for successful phonation, and which does not consciously require any disruption of the larynx by actively, physically 'tilting' it. Such a mindless practise in vocal tuition will, in my estimation, guarantee a dearth of proficient singers graduating from voice training establishments which incorporate this "fad"...It is a sad reflection on the state of vocal tuition in the current scene...As far as I'm concerned , this is just another way of ignorant people who do not have a natural singing talent and ability , or the skill to teach others how to use the voice naturally and creatively (because they themselves don't understand the process), but wish to keep their well paid positions in estblishments where managements are often no better informed ... and even sadder, never been able to sing successfully...all simply "grist to the mill".."The King's Speech" continues to have an impact on interest in the "Extended Breathing Routine" which I've been researching and developing most of my life, and was responsible for my miraculous recovery from fire damage to my lungs - it was the most beneficial of 'my accidents'..won't go into the others right now..! Am happily assisting 'my Breathers', without the slightest knowledge of "Larynx Tilting", at International level, and they are all 'making waves on the sea of creative and magical music making'...fabulous..and they're all sublimely proficient in performance ..one only has to be in the audience to be carried away on waves of heavenly vocal sound, in every musical genre ..I'm very proud of them and their indivdual achievements - won by their total dedication to "The ART of Singing", which is simply 'words spoken on a musical tone'..easy as that...which is the real 'secret'...leave the larynx alone pleeease...ha ha ha ...and k..p b.......g ...Happy Spring to you all...

The Brilliant Ellen Blanck - the delightful Electronics Virtuoso...thankyou..
Dear Ellen. To say that I'm 'all thumbs' when it comes to texting on an iphone - forever sending texts prematurely because my fat finger accidentally touches the 'send' key when it means to type the 'o', 'p', or 'a', situated by the 'send' key - the 'a' with a ring over the top - Swedish letter which is not on my computer's keyboard...I've had the pleasure of Ellen's Friendship for several years now, through my association with the brilliant Anna Larsson, contralto, and her terrific tenor husband, Goran Eliasson. Ellen joined the staff of their singers agency Eliasson Artists a some months ago ...fantastic..Ellen is also a great photographer, and most of the photo's in Anna's Blogg are created by Ellen..she has a 'really good eye' with a camera as you can see for yourself if you look in Anna's Blogg at anna larsson.nu I've been having some trouble with my Blogg Posting recently..going out into different pages on screen.., and Ellen discovered what I hadn't - there were two sites!!! No mystery for this whizz kid in electronic communication ...my excuse is that my brain is not sure what my fingers are controlling through a key, in the way that it is when one hand writes ...but it's actually just a question of logic...hmmm...' ...I mentioned to Ellen that when I was Studio Controller of The Performing Arts Dept., at The University of Birmingham in the 1970's, most of us on the staff considered the Electronic Dept. boffins (technical research scientists) a bit 'doolally' when they were enthusing about 'electronic mail'- "Pardon me - letters thro' a piece of cable..hmm..?" ....we all thought they were mad...well of course, they were!! Any innovator is usually considered 'off of their trolley' - you have to be to think and create beyond normallity, and that which is already known ... it's in the genius category -whatever that is.. ha ha haaa......so now I'll see if I can post this successfully..I'll owe you a nice meal and champagne if I can Ellen, and many thanks for your continued support of this pathetic old Pensioner ...he he hee .... nighty night....sleep tight...and k..p b.......g.....zzzzzz

The Tragi-Comedy of English Singing - food for thought..from Anna Sims.."The English Breather"..(with a sting in the tail)..
...it cannot be denied that in certain directions we have made great progress in England during the last twenty years. The standard of instrumental playing is one hundred per cent, higher , and we have a group of composers who are rapidly bringing us into line with International standards of achievement. But there is one branch of executive musical art in which there is to be discerned, not only no advance of any kind, but a distinct movement of retrogression. I refer to singing, which is at the moment in nothing less than a desperate condition of decline, and the responsibility of blame may be fairly divided between the singers themselves and those to whom it has been entrusted the task of their education. Let it first be made clear that nothing can be urged aganst the quality of English voices or the musical intelligence of the average young English singer, as compared with the corresponding type abroad. We have a large number of first rate voices and an enormous number of singing students, and yet in these islands, a judicious selection would hardly suffice to complete the necessary personnel of a single good opera company. The question that at once arises in one's mind is, why is it that all these young people of voice and talent, who in their thousands pass through our schools of music, arrive practically nowhere ? We know that when they embark upon their course of study they are often sound and promising in every respect, vocally and mentally. Yet we see these same again some years afterwards, and in nearly every case we have difficutly in detecting signs of the slightest development, indeed, some are even less competent and capable of assimilation than in the earlier days. What can possibly have happened in the meantime to have produced this unhappy state of seeming paralysis? Undoubtedly the main cause is to be found in the deplorable system of training most of them have received either in the great schools of music or from private teachers. There can be no question that almost the greatest drawback in the musical life of this country is the scarcity of good singing masters, and the appalling overgrowth of bungling incompetence that dares to imagine that without the smallest qualifications it can mould and handle the most delicately sensitive and beautiful of instruments in the weorld. Not only are the professors themselves dangerously inadequate, but what is of equal malevolence is the point of view prevailing in the music schools toward the whole question of singers and singing. For years the unfortunate vocal student has been regarded as something rather less than a human being, at any rate as a creature of unusually inferior intelligence. Upon their entering an institution, the authorities, convinced of their comparative lowliness in the animal kingdom...at once set about remedying the students defects by giving them what they call a good general music education. It does not matter a rap whether the unfortunate victim has any special desires on the subject, or shows any aptitude or not for playing the double bassoon or writing fugues in thirty six parts. True to their peculiar theory that singers should be musicians first and singers afterwards, they whittle away the precious time of the student in providing them with a superficial knowledge of half a dozen subjects, and a really useful acquaintance with none of them. It would be difficult to find a single vocalist of merit in the whole of this country who could be brought to deny that the time given up to the study of singing at one of our great musical institutions was not, from beginning to end, an utter waste of time and money...! ..O.K., O.K.... before you start lambasting me (Simsannabim) with a defensive tirade at my audacity in publishing such a scathing report on the subject of English voice training, let me explain that this article appeared in The London Daily Chronicle of March 15th. ..1915 !! ..from the pen of one ..Thomas Beecham...later Knighted for his services to music...yes, Dear Old Tommy Beecham. I love listening to recordings of his concerts, etc., and hearing his 'dry, throaty' voice singin' along ...Unfortunately, from the reports of many talented young singers, I receive messages that indicate the current situation is not dissimilar to that of 1915....can you believe it...?? For instance, the latest 'craze hitting the fan' ..(or throat ? ) is ..'tilting the larynx'..which is totally irrelevent to acquiring the skills for the development of "The ART of Singing"...after all..'singing' is simply ' talking on a musical note'...simple as that and mostly dependant on good natural breathing . I'm often asked "What makes you think you're right about breathing..?." I DON'T think I'm right.." Yes you DO" ..."No I don't - I KNOW I'm ' right or it wouldn't still be working for me " ...any questions ...?? Please k..p b.......g..

Congratulations to "The King's Speech" and Lionel Logue..from "The Breathing Lady" - Simsannabim !!!
Weeell - here's a thing...!!! For years - 37 exactly - I've striven to help others with respiratory, speech and vocal difficulties, with a breathing routine 'invented' after an almost fatal fire accident, from which I miraculously recovered out of a sheer survival 'inner drive' - who can define it ..? Prior to that I'd been a successful professional singer (among diverse interests and occupations which manifested in my crazy, un-educated life..ha ha haaaa..) So it was with interest that I attended a performance of the brilliant, faultless, and incredibly moving British film "The King's Speech", with a cast of charismatic actors headed by the engaging Colin Firth as King George Sixth of Great Britain, Helena Bonham Carter as his charming wife, Queen Elisabeth, and Geoffrey Rush, the doggedly determined Australian Speech Therapist, Lionel Logue, who eventually helped The King overcome his stammer....they have all been honoured already Internationally for their magnificent playing of these roles...we now await their reception at the forthcoming American Oscars Ceremony....Good Luck to you all, and everyone concerned in this outstanding creation... my curiosity was aroused by the publicity clips shown on t.v., especially with the aspects of 'engaging the diaphragm', which - until then - I hadn't realise was NOT a priority with the average 'Singing Teacher' ...a very famous Diva Friend recently quipped " Oooh Anna - we all know you want to 'teach the whole world to breathe', but let's face it -what good is it doing.? " I gave her no answer, but thought "..mmm...wait and see/hear..." Fortunately for me I was lucky enough to meet the illustrious German Soprano Elisabeth Grummer, whilst attending her Master Classes with a Friend, in Lucerne, and sessions at her home in Berlin in the 1970's...her 'doggy panting' exercise is one of the most beneficial to all, but particularly good for voice users and ... stammerers. The main crux of Lionel's experience was that he was considered 'a bit of a crank - to say the least ! As most of my Friends and Associates will concur, my reputation runs on similar lines..they don't call me 'Anna theMad One' for nothing ..! This I take as a charming, affectionate compliment, and it certainly breaks down any barriers for those who are wary of Officialdom and 'Elevated Experts'...The methods Lionel employed to 'liberate' our Dear King George the Sixth from his stuttering stammer were totally un-orthodox, and I believe came from an innate 'instinctive gift'. In my un-complicated mind - it is classed as -MAGIC...make of magic what you will...Many 'singing teachers' have 'blocked' me with singers who had vocal problems, and would have benefitted most from knowing how to breathe correctly..Dame Joan Sutherland , in the 1970's, when I met her at a competition in Austria, bewailed the fact that I was not taken seriously...A little later, another Antipodean, Janice Chapman, the "Holoistic (!! pardon- ??) Singing Teacher", attended a Breathing Workshop I gave in London. Miss Chapman was there to 'vet' me, for The British Voice Association who had invited me to demonstrate my simple breathing routine, in conjunction with the distinguished Swedish soprano Elisabeth Soderstrom at their International conference. Miss Chapman was puzzled as to why I suggested and demonstrated certain movements - "Woi arr ya doin' thett?" - "Try it and you may find out ..hmm?" She stayed for half the session, and reported back to Gunnar Rugheimer, BVA Secretary (who had heard some young singers at The Vadstena Festival, Sweden, using my routine earlier that year, and liked what he'd heard.) .. that basically, "it would be an insult to the intelligence of all attending the conference, for me to explain the principals of breathing so simplistically "....so I know how Lionel must have felt.... Due to this wonderful film, there is now an un-anticipated interest in in the "Simsannabim" Breathing Routine. ...so, come one and all, and be 'enlightened' as my most stalwart, mega talented Swedish contralto 'breather' Anna Larsson, puts it... !!..maybe I've been right all along..my 'regular breathers' certainly prove that 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating' ..or in my case ' the proof of the method in in the hearing'..with warmest, loving greetings to all those who have had faith in this " little old English Auntie, who loves gossip and licorice ice cream (!), and who speaks perfect Queen's English! " ...quote from the Blogg of the aforementioned Anna Larsson ..see her at her homepage anna larsson.nu - up poles, singing magnificently with a cute 5 foot long, real, LIVE albino python climbing her right arm as Kundry (oooh!) and another magnificent 'breather ' - Rosalind Plowright, O.B.E - 'Rosalind Plowright Classical Singing Lesson and mini Masterclass' ...nightie night..and please ..k..p b.......g...
Marvellous Malin's (Hartelius) "Leila" in Zurich....7/10/10
Hello from Berko...I was privileged to be in Zurich recently, to "breathe" Malin into her amazing portrayal of "Leila" in "Les Pecheurs de Perle", Bizet's Oriental adventure...The setting was a full stage merchant ship's interior on four levels, with subtle, silent scene changes... oddly, the sung text did not match the action...no 'dancing on the hot sands' in this in this concept..hmmm...much activity on all levels- nimble legs a neccesity here..phew ! Happily Malin is perfectly physically fit, her petite stature belying incredible strength ..and hidden vitality..Woow..and to top it all...she sang the role with a rare brilliance, ringing and 'pinging' effortlessly - floating over the orchestra...fantastic...congratulations Malin !!! Your ovation at curtain call "brought the house down" !!! Here's to your forthcoming 'Donna Elvira' in Mozart's "Don Giovanni"....It's very quiet by comparison back here in Berko, and I'm enjoying my little house and newly 'manicured' garden, thanks to the gargantuan clear up by lovely Sharlene (Nair) - a talent to be nurtured in Music Theatre at the moment.. (who knows what will develop for her ?) ..and her very fit Dad Nick..they went thro' the weeds, etc., like a tornado !!! Natasha Sutton-Williams , another highly talented Music Theatre Breather worth following, had already helped me organise storage space in the shed for garden furniture and tools, etc., so I feel much happier now that I can see the soil again !..Oh yes, the fig trees which were decimated by the ultra cold spell last January, incredibly sprang up again, and supplied me with a succulent crop of fruits for several weeks in the late summer - the miracles of nature.. This evening the lovely Lisa Larsson, Swedish soprano , mega breather, is in Holland enchanting her audience in an inspiring Mozartian concert..toi toi toi...k..p b.......g....
